The Story of Maison Vicky
Maison Vicky is named in honor of Vicky Howard – it is her importance to our family and the property that forms the foundation of this story. In 2017, we were newly in love and decided to take a short weekend trip to visit Peer’s mother, who had lived in the village for over fifteen years. Peer’s relationship with his mother had become somewhat distant over time, with busy lives and the years slipping by. When we arrived, Vicky greeted us in the driveway – she lived in the neighboring house together with her partner Robert. The evening ended with champagne until morning, cementing new friendships and strong bonds.
Vicky was an energetic woman – independent, caring, and always full of life. Her story in the area actually began with the construction of the house Le Folie, where Robert worked as a craftsman. After a year of complete renovation, a romantic and genuine love blossomed between Vicky and Robert. Due to dishonest intentions from outsiders, Vicky had to leave Le Folie, but she settled just nearby, just over the fence from the neighboring house. Vicky and Robert always preserved their love and their close relationship with the home they had created, even from a distance.
During the days we spent here, we fell completely in love with the place. We discovered that the neighboring house, Vicky and Robert’s first home, was for sale. It had stood empty for ten years and had become dilapidated and overgrown, with no one showing any interest in buying it. That same weekend – after a spontaneous and enthusiastic rosé lunch with Vicky and with craftsman Robert as our supportive guide – we decided to take the plunge and purchase it.
The renovation work began with Vicky as our inspiring leader and Robert executing the practical work. With joy, love, and hard work, the house grew into the beautiful place it is today. Over time, the bond between Peer and his mother was also strengthened, and years of absence were replaced by daily phone calls. Since June 2017, we have spent every holiday here together with the children. Sadly, Vicky passed away after a short illness in 2019, just before the house was fully completed. Even though she is no longer with us, her spirit and efforts remain deeply rooted in the walls – and that is why the property bears her name, Maison Vicky.
